Born on 10th August 1917, at the kennel of "DE JOLIMONT" of A. Hanappe, SNAP belonged to H. HANSSEN, who lived in Antwerp. His master had trained this intelligent dog well since at first he was quite an aggressive and biting character. He inherited his biting from his grandfather on father’s side SIPS TER HEIDE. Louis Huyghebaert (affix of TER HEIDE), who did not like biting dogs, had left him to Dr. Bricoux. SIPS TER HEIDE was the son of TJOP (who belonged to Frantz Huyghebaert, brother of Louis) and ZET (LOSH 8210). Having remarked her great intelligence, Louis Huyghebaert bought this bitch from her owner H. Huon of Tournai. SNAP was not only an ace in ring competition, but also in field trials (which included exercises in the water) and tracking. He obtained many CAC in every discipline, he was an all-round athlete. He was always obedient and defended his master with passion when this last one was attacked. He obtained the title of "Champion de Travail (S.R.S.H.)" in 1925, or "Full Champion" as the English would say. He was a working dog with exceptional qualities and high capacities of defending and guarding. SNAP is a dog from whom important bloodlines of working Malinois have resulted. SNAP obtained high marks at dog shows. He was a well proportioned dog and a beautiful model. He was an important stud dog or breed maker in the years 1920. He was the father of remarkable Malinois such as SAM DU THIRIAU (LOB 10280)(alias SAMOX LOSH 20606), KILLER (LOSH 14912)who was champion of work in 1924 (SRSH) and also of the female champion 1928 of tracking (SRSH), MASCOTTE DU TIGRE ROYAL (LOSH 14849). SAM DU THIRIAU belonged to Octave Durand (affix of DU THIRIAU) who was judge, President of the K.C.B.(Belgian Kennel Club) and also President of "Club du Chien de Berger belge". An other son, VENGO DU TIGRE ROYAL, will become the propriety of W. Anderson, chief of police of Chapleau in Canada. His photo was published in the Canadian Breeder’s Directory of 1924. These are the motifs on which SNAP is a great Malinois. He is one of the best Malinois. I would also like to add that SNAP was decorated for his heroic deed and is one of the "HERO-DOGS". SNAP had to rescue a late consumer from five or six attackers, not without injuring some of them. The Malinois, this variety of the Belgian Shepherd Dogs, numbers a lot of great champions starting with CORA I and TJOP, one of the pillars of the variety. The malinois is a working dog with exceptional qualities. It seems less attractive than the Groenendael or the Tervueren because of its short coat, but it is more practical. Its high capacities of defending and guarding make it a dog of great utility. Jean-Marie Vanbutsele |
