Rough Hair - including the Laekenois

The Laekenois
is fawn with traces of overlay
on the muzzle and the tail and black ears

The rough-haired has the same ascendents as the short-haired. Indeed, among the female descendants of VOS (fawn rough-haired) and LISKE (grey-brown brindle short-haired) of Laeken, we meet DIANE and MOUCHE.
DIANE was the grandmother of  the famous Malinois TJOP and MOUCHE was the mother of  DEWET, the other pillar of the malinois. Among the male descendants of the same VOS and LISKE, we find TOM and VOS II, two fawn rough-haired dogs.
What especially characterizes the variety of the rough haired is the state of roughness and dryness of the hair, particularly ruffled. Its length, the same on every part of the body, is about 2 to 3 cm. Neither the hairs around the eyes nor those on the muzzle are sufficiently developed to give the head the aspect of a Briard or a Poodle. The tail should not be bushy.

After the dog show of 1908, where the dark ash grey rough-haired appeared in large numbers, it will disappear in time.

In this variety of rough hair, we call Laekenois, the dog that presents the fawn rough hair with traces of overlay, mainly on the muzzle and the tail.
